Our God is none other than the Lord God Almighty, He is also our Loving Heavenly Father and He desires to be with His people, this being taught so much in The Scriptures and we also now this from our experience. In the beginning our God was with those whom He had created, the language touching on this is rather nice. We note that God desired to be 'Walking with mankind in the garden in the cool of the day', what an experience that must have been for our Lord and His created beings. As this fellowship was broken because of the waywardness of mankind, the experience between a holy God and disobedient individuals could not continue, please note I am now using words which we should be able to understand
Now in that situation it was our Lord who took the initiative in seeking mankind out, just read Genesis c3 v9, this is so clear. Now for mankind to be reconciled to our Lord, a just God the penalty of their disobedience had to be paid, this was done in the giving of a life, as we understand from v21.Now all this, including the procedures understood through the old spiritual economy of Old Testament days, this covered many years. It went to the life, indeed the life giving our Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of The Lord God Almighty. In the old day the sins of the people could only be taken back for twelve months, then the sacrifices had to be done all over again, continually, that is why the High Priest stood up all through the procedures. Then came our Lord Jesus, He died once and for all for the sins of mankind and He 'sat down' at the right hand of The Father.Yes a completed work, never to be done again
In the Old Testament days our God dwelt in buildings made by hands, it was in the Holy of Holies in the temple where our Lord desired to dwell with His people, as they were obedient. The presence of our God was known as the Shekina Glory, it was, so I understand like a 'cloud'. This was all fine 'but', there is always one of those, as the Children of Israel were disobedient so the gloryof our God departed, this was known as 'Ichabod', meaning 'The glory hath departed'.Now as I reflect on this I just wonder how often our God would have dwelt with me, with us on those terms?.....I have to dwell on that for a few moments
The temple that our God gave instructions to David to build, he could not do this because of his waywardness, so Solomon directed the work.It was a beautiful place; 46,300 tons of gold and silver were used to line both sides of the building. There was reflected such a brilliance and dazzling effulgence, that the eye of the beholder was obliged to turn away from it, being no more able to sustain its radiance, than the splendor of the sun.Everything in this building, as recorded in Chronicles teaches us about divine things
When our dear Lord Jesus Christ was in Jerusalem, the procedures in the temple were in a very low state indeed. The ecclesiastic life had never been so poor, with those who had the position of High Priest being much to be desired and I say no more.Yes, the glory of the Lord had departed, it was a state of Ichabod and what did they do to our Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of The Father? They crucified Him and the folk there sassed'His blood be upon us and ours' and it has been ever since. To put this in a few words we call to mind the words of Scripture that, 'However, the Most High does not dwell in buildings made by hands', but our bodies are the temple of His Spirit, in and through our blessed Lord Jesus
In calling to mind the experience in the very beginning between our God and His created ones, they had wonderful fellowship. This period being is known as the 'Dispensation of Innocence', a dispensation being a period of time in which our God deals with His people in a special way.So what about us now?We now live in the 'Dispensation of the Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ'.As we come into a correct understand with our holy God, this can only be done through the work on The Cross of our Lord Jesus, so the Spirit of our God dwells within us, our bodies become His temple. As we worship in a collective sense so our Lord is with us, in the lives of the gathered people. The Holy Spirit of our God is not something that can be plucked from the atmosphere; no He is a person, a divine person who dwells with us, thereby making us holy in and through the work of our Lord Jesus. As I understand the teaching about the Holy Spirit, teaching by our Lord Jesus Himself as found in John's Gospel c16.The Spirit He is with us first of all to convict of our sin, this sin being that we do not by our natural mind, believe on Him, to me, to simple Trevor, this is the sin which cannot be forgiven. Please note in the chapter of John's Gospel that I am referring to, it gives the divine order of things in the mind of our God.Sin being the first one, then what that sin is this must therefore be that one which is unforgivable. This is why our Jesus came from glory, why He went to The Cross. Why His Father God said Amen to His work and on the third day He rose again, in the might and majesty, the power and wonder of the resurrection
