As we Break Bread Together', have a Communion Service', this communion being primarily with our dear Lord, or meet around The Lord's Table', there are some points which are most important, let's consider them
In gathering for a Communion Service', every part of it should be
centred around our blessed Lord, no one or nothing else, full stop.
This I understand from the teaching in 1 Corinthians c11 v24 & 25
Now why do I state this so clearly at the start of this thesis? The answer being, it is because ou r blessed Lord Jesus, the One who we remember in this special way, Heasked us to.Call to mind the instructions for the structure of this service as given to the Apostle Paul by our risen Lord Himself, He said, As often as you do this, you do it in remembrance of Me', how dare we do otherwise?Every hymn of praise sung, readings from the Sacred Oracles, as music might be played, but in a very special way every prayer uttered should centre around our blessed Lord. Yes,even music played must be of hymn tunes we know, these hymns being about our Lord Jesus Christ, as played we can muse upon the words in fond remembrance of The Master
We are not asked to Break Bread Together' and remember the folk who are not very well or distressed in any way.We must not at a Communion Service',commune in any way with folk serving our Lord on the mission field. We dare not meet around The Lord's Table' just as part of the order of things in the church where we meet. Our prime reason for being involved in The Lord's Supper'is
This do in remembrance of Me', as requested by our blessed Lord,
these words quoted fromCorinthians
This strict discipline must be lovingly maintained, it can only be done by the application of our minds, this being controlled by the Spirit of o 4ur God

Till He come', the He' being our Lord Jesus Christ,
these words quotedfrom Corinthians
In going to be with our beloved Lord, or if we should ourselves experience the return of our dear Lord Jesus Christ, it will not be necessary to remember' Him, no, we willhave that wonderful experience of being in His presence. As we believe', understanding the Biblical meaning of this word, know this Jesus by whom we are ransomed, healed, restored and forgiven, the One who did all those wonderful miracles, gave such remarkable teaching, we are going to see Him in that eternal day' with our 'eternal eyes'.To see this same Jesus, yes our Lord Jesus Christ, it will be an experience Far better' anything we have had on Planet Earth.Rememberin g that Eye hath not seen, neither has it entered into the heart of man the things God has in store for those who love Him', in being with our Lord, in meeting Him face to face it will not be necessary to remember' Him again. This experience will go beyond anythingpreviously understood
Having established those important points, remembering they are the instructions of our Lord Jesus Himself, let us dwell for a few moments on the BREAD, WINE and CUP.The bread and wine are symbols, not the actual flesh and blood of our Lord Jesus, remember we know that Jesus Died once and for all for the sins of the world', His sacrifice was perfect, fully accepted by His Father God so it cannot be that He is sacrificed again in any way.If we think this way we imply that our Lord Jesus y Christ was not the Only Begotten Son of The Father, how dare we?
As we partake of the Bread', it reminds us of His body which was broken for us and all our thinking should centre around our Lord Jesus. As Jesus was in the Garden of Gethsemane, He was in great agony of mind, heart and spirit, He pleaded with His Father God that if possible He would not go through the Cross experience. As our Lord Jesus Christ was the Son of God He would have known what that experience was going to be like, if not He was not divine.Let us just stretch our thinking for a few moments and imaging what the Gethsemane' experience would have involved, it was terrible, awful and beyond our understanding
In Gethsemane our Lord's heart, mind and soul were
Bruisedforouriniquities'
as prophesied by Isaiah
Then our Jesus was taken to Pilate, knowing what was going to take place in a few hours, it must have been tough for Him.Next our Jesus was scourged,He would have been strong, having worked hard in the Carpenter's Shop for years.Jesus was so weakened by the scourging that he lost the strength to carry the Cross, He Tumbled and fell' and it was carried for Him
With Pilate and the scourging our Lord suffered it was,
With His strips we are healed'
as prophesied by Isaiah
Now to Calvary, our dear Lord's hands, side and feet were pierced, there was on His head, not a halo as artists would draw, but a crown of thorns was pressed into position. Then in those terrible moments, which we will never understand, our dear Lord Jesus Christ became sin for us, to the extent that His Father God could not have anything to do with Him , Jesus cried out, My God, my God why has Thou forsaken Me?'.May we never be so foolish as to ask why?.We already know
In these things with Jesus
ThechastisementforourpeacewasuponHim' ,
and He had , Laid on Him the iniquity of us all'
as prophesied by Isaiah
In the Calvary experience our Lord Jesus Christ'sBODYwasBROKENfor us, indeed
we go a step further, His HEART was BROKEN and in partaking of the bread we are reminded of these truths
Our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of light and glory came through the experience of Calvary to the wonder & glory, the might & majesty, the thrilling & wonderful experience of the resurrection on the third day.Jesus appeared to His disciples in His resurrected body, sits now at the right hand of the Father, crowned 4 with resplendent glory, interceding for us and coming again, maintaining in His eternal being the marks of our salvation at Calvary. Please consider the teachingregarding the Doubting Thomas' and TheLamb which stood, as though it had been slain'.Selah!
Only through our Lord Jesus we become New creatures in Christ Jesus', we are right now sons and daughters of the living God, we are His body' the church, those who have their names written in The Lamb's Book of Life'.This all through our Lord Jesus Christ being brought As a lamb to the slaughter'.Yes, our Jesus in being taken to Calvary actually went through the Sheep Gate', this was the gate the sheep passed before being sacrificed in accordance with the Law of Moses
He is brought as a lamb to the slaughter'
as prophesied by Isaiah
Now we consider the Wine'.Our Sovereign God is holy, without any sin whatsoever, His Sonour dear Lord Jesus being the impeccable Christ. With human kind we only have to consider the news coming by the media, sport, the problems in our local areas, schools, indeed with ourselves and we understand that All have sinned and come short of the glory of God'.We also know that, The wages of sin is death'.Our God is just,as His laws are broken the penalty must be paid.Such is the holiness of our God that as Jesus was the only sinless One, He paid the price of our salvation on The Crossfor
Without the shedding of blood there is no remission'
Only as we repent of our sins, seek forgiveness from our Father God, through our Lord Jesus Christ, by His Spirit so we become New creatures i n Christ Jesus'.Our Father God has a new covenant with us through this same Jesus, by His shed blood on The Cross and so we remember His great work, partaking of wine at The Lord's Supper', yes Jesus
Was wounded for our transgressions'
as prophesied by Isaiah
The final point being about the Cup'.In the Garden of Gethsename our Lord Jesus prayed to His Father God, If it be possible let this cup' pass from Me, nevertheless not My will but Yours be done', what does this mean please?
In a cup we have a portion of liquid, in the cup' our Lord drank' at Calvary, His portion' was to pay the price of our salvation, Jesus drunk' all the bitter wine' from that cup'.Through the experience of our dear Lord Jesus on The Cross, we have our portion' of wine', that is forgiveness, fellowship, eternal life which is peace for ever and ever
We drink The Royal Wine of Heaven'
Drawing from m |y experience over many years I make an important observation regarding remembering our dear Lord, in the way He has asked and how this should affect every individual in a Christian fellowship. The times I have spoken publicly in taking services or writings which have come from my pen, very rarely has reference been made to any denomination, I endeavour to keep away from that sort of thing, but I am now going to break this unwritten personal rule right now. Before I commit this crime',I have lived in 14 different dwellings, been to 11 separate schools, attended 12 particular churches and SundaySchools, justtryandbeatthosefigures!
With the 12 churches, 3 were Methodists, 2 Baptists, 2 Free Church, 3 Christian Brethren and 2 Church of England. As you recover from that shock you could well ask why?I assure you that there are very good, understandable reasons for these figures, because of economic circumstances, the war years and the many places we lived in.You could well ask, Please tell me Trevor, why have you given those details now, what point are you trying to make?'
I have been present at numerous Communion Services, with slight differences in so many, but Amy and myself so valued the order of service as following by the Christian Brethren. The morning meeting to be the 'Breaking of Bread' service, without any order of service being previously planned, for us this experience has been rather special.I fully understand there can be problemswith anyarrangement of human kind, but inattending such meetings they had a big effect on everyonepresent as individuals, also the gathered people as a whole, this helps so much in the unity of believers in a fellowship. This is one of the ways our dear Lord works, so that we are, All one in Christ Jesus'
First of all for the negative reality, as a company of Christian people or indeed any individual in a fellowship meets without gathering for a Communion Service',the way appointed by our Lord, around Himself in The Lord's Supper', there are will be problems, this is an absolute certainty
Finally I finish on a positive note.It is a categorical imperative that as an assembly of the people of our God meet on a regular basis, in this to remember our dear Lord Jesus in the way He has encouraged us.This being done according to the definite structure our Lord has given in His Word, so there will be unity of spirit, mind and heart amongst His people
In a local company of the people of our God, everyone, yesyoung, middle aged and the older folk of the fellowship must be present together on a regular basis, except for understandable reasons. This to remember our Lord Jesus in the way He has asked us and everyone has a part to play as we all, Proclaim the Lord's death until He come'
Do this in remembrance of Me
Amen, so be it!
