Yes certainly we can!
Before we evangelise one must first of all know the truth regarding our own understanding of our dear heavenly Father, in and through our Lord Jesus Christ, by His Spirit, this truth must be clearly grasped. We know that in ourselves we will perish but through the Cross work of our Lord Jesus we can have everlasting life. All folk who are on Planet Earth who are outside Christ will die eternally; they will go to an eternal destiny without God which is Hell. Let us be very clear about this most important truth which was taught so clearly by the impeccable Christ in John c3 v16. Our Lord Jesus Christ, being The Son of God could not tell a lie, so how can we help folk we are in touch with daily?
We are all different, every one of us have our own distinctive ways with people we meet daily of communicating with them. Neither does the responsibility of presenting the Gospel rest with a select few who publicly preach the Word of God. We all have the commission of making the good news known in our lives, so how can this be done?
All of us are influenced by other people, in the ways they behave, by words they speak or write. We also influence others by the same means so we must take great care. Therefore how can we be used by our Lord so that, in the way we live and what we say, 'bells' will start ringing in the minds of the people we meet, reminding them of eternal verities?
This is a large subject, one could attend seminars, listen to tapes, view videos on the subject or even go to lectures at a church, but let us make it much easier with two most simple suggestions to move us forward. So get ready - it will only take as few seconds
In our lives, as we endeavor to live for The Master, we all need the help of His Holy Spirit. We can about eternal things as much as we like, but unless this is blessed by our Lord through His Spirit, then all is in vain. Let us be very clear about this, we are told in The Acts of The Apostles that Lydia was the one, 'Whose heart the Lord touched'. In the letter written to the fellowship at Laodicea in the record of The Revelation, advice was given that they needed their eyes, 'Anointed with eye salve so that they might see'. We all need our spiritual eyes anointed by the Spirit of our God to enable us to see things that are spiritual and eternal. Yes, we all need the assistance of our dear Lord, by His Spirit in our endeavours to understand the things of God and be of service to our Heavenly Father, if not, what we say or write is an utter waste of time
I am now going to mention two simple ways by which we can evangelise, they were taught to me through experience a few years ago. The first one by my dear wife Amy and the second through folk we worshipped at a Gospel Hall
When folk asked Amy where she had been on a Sunday, or she spoke to people about her interests, she would not say that she had been to 'church', but would rather use the word 'worship'. This word is not part of the working vocabulary of many folk, so as used in this way fresh thoughts would be activated in the minds of the listeners, this is maybe a challenge with subsequent thoughts being aroused. Our Lord brought this word 'worship' to my mind in this sense in about 1985. It almost seemed insignificant but I still dwell on it today
Before I develop the second point, please remember we often indicate the way we feel about our loved ones, the ones to whom our emotions are directed, by the tone of our voice when we speak about them
Just think of the One through whom we have been ransomed, restored and forgiven. When we met for worship many years ago with a certain group of people, a number of the would speak about The Master in very loving terms. There were others however who referred to Him rather coldly. After worshipping with these people for a good number of years, we then assembled with a company of folk who understood matters slightly differently. Generally they spoke of our Lord using what we considered unusual titles, we knew them but they were not in general use. The One through we had become Christians was spoken of in normal conversations as 'Our Lord', or 'The Master', or maybe just 'Our Lord Jesus'. Then when speaking of 'God' that word would not be very often used on its own, but rather the title, 'Our Father God' or 'The Lord God Almighty'
Worldlings use the word 'god' so frequently, even in just using the expressing 'Good god', indeed we who believe have 'gods' in our lives and as I record this point I reflect on my own life. The word 'God' means so little to many folk, so in our normal conversations lets refer to the One we love as, 'Our Heavenly Father' or 'The Lord God Almighty. Also note that by the very tone of our voices it can bee seen that we have a special relationship with Him
These two points I have raised are for me very important, yet so small that we can adjust our speech accordingly and be a witness. Not only do this with friends and neighbours but also when in the company of our Lord's people where we worship. In using the word 'worship' as suggested and lovingly referring to our Lord in our normal speech, our conversations will be brightened up so much. If how we feel about our Lord is expressed in our normal conversations in these simple ways, it will be a testimony, it will make an impact. Why not 'Have a Go?'
I now come to the end of writing this booklet, if I get as much encouragement from it as I did from folk after the first one was published, it will bring glory to our Lord and delight my own heart and mind for His exultation
As our hearts and minds are drawn more so to our Father God, through our dear Lord Jesus we will worship Him more fully, this is what our Lord desire, this is why we are here, this is our 'mission'
What a Lord we have, He is all perfection,
Such a Lord, perfect, risen, righteous and coming soon,
So may our minds revere, our hearts adore and our spirits worship
As we write of our Lord, to enable us to express more fully what He means to us,
May we always refer to Him in the definite article.
Doing this so that others will understand more fully who He is:
The Babe in The Manger
The Man upon The Cross
The Body in The Tomb,
But at this moment
The King upon His Throne,
