Forgiven & Forgotten?

There is only one way, by which our sins can be fully forgiven by our Father God, that being through our dear Lord Jesus in His experience on The Cross for us. Having said that there are different words used in Scripture, they are all worthy of note in helping us to get a good understanding of the position, so let us proceed further

In Isaiah c43, the end of v25 we are told that our Lord will not REMEMBER our sins', now we could say, just steady on a little as our Lord is God, He is perfect, He is not frail, so how can He forget? We are of the human kind, we are all frail, we forget and this is noticed so much as age moves us forward, but our God is not like that in any way, so how do we explain these few words?

Now for our sins to be forgiven, our Father God gave His ONLY begotten Son, gave Him to pay the penalty of our sins, this being death. We know according to the law of our God that, The soul that sinneth, it will surely die' and The wages of sin is death.' Our God is just, therefore His laws are perfect and cannot be broken, in Matthew c5 v17 Jesus said, I am come not to destroy the law or the prophets, I am not come to destroy but to fulfil'. So our Lord Jesus Christ did fulfil the law, He paid the penalty of sins which was death for our salvation upon The Cross, He fulfilled the law, giving His life freely that we might be redeemed. Our Lord Jesus, considering who He is, could have walked away from Calvary at any time, but because of His love for us He went right through that terrible, dreadful experience. Now this work of our Lord was perfect, complete in every sense of the word, as He was the ONE and ONLY BEGOTTEN SON OF GOD. Our Father God said His Amen to The Cross experience of Christ Jesus, as on The Third Day our Lord Jesus Christ rose again, having conquered sin and death, so how can we understand that our Father God forgets sins, God is God so He cannot forget

The work of our Lord Jesus was perfect, because of who He is, our Father God, by His very own act of will, decided not to remember our sins any more, as we accept that The Cross experience of our Lord Jesus was for us as individuals. Such was the perfect work of our Lord Jesus on The Cross that as we confess our sins and ask for forgiveness through, our dear Lord Jesus, our Father God decides not to REMEMBER our sins any more

The next words to consider in same verse in Isaiah, they are that our transgressions are BLOTTED OUT. Now one could say, Steady on a little Trevor, this verse is in the Old Testament, it is only through Jesus in the New Testament that our sins are dealt with in this way', now this is true, but. The whole of the Old Testament pointed up to the person of our dear Lord Jesus and His work for us. In the old spiritual economy, the sins of the people were dealt with on a twelve monthly basis, after that the sacrifices had to be done all over again. But in our Lord Jesus, the death He died in about AD33, He paid the penalty of death, the price to cover sins for all time, That Jesus died once and for all for the sins of the world', never ever to be repeated again. So in and through our dear Lord Jesus, such was His sacrifice for us, that our sins, as we confess them through our Lord Jesus, are completely BLOTTED OUT, removed, never to be seen again. After that our names are written in the Lamb's Book of Life, this record being an eternal one never, ever can it be erased, sealed by the shed blood, the life giving of our Lord Jesus, written by, dare I say it, by those nailed pierced hands, mark He still carries in His eternal being

Now in Psalm c103 we are told that our sins are SEPARATED from us, as far as the East is from the West, what does this mean please?

Let us look at the geography of the world, there are the North and South Poles there is also the East and West. The North and South Poles can be reached, but East and West have no fixed points, when you move East, you move East, East and East again and never reach the West. So our transgressions our separated from us, as far as the East is from the West, this is what the Scriptures teach, it all being true in Christ. So effective was the work of our Lord Jesus on The Cross, fully accepted by our Father God, that in our Lord Jesus, our sins are separated from us, in The Master, without any conditions at all, apart from confession and forgiveness through Christ, that is enough. This means that our forgiven sins, they will never meet up with us again, through the effective work of our Lord Jesus on The Cross, the East and West can never ever be reached. If only we all would fully realise this truth, there would not be such a drain on the nations economy through the Health Service, in prescribing nerve tablets. Please understand, I remember the things I have done and thought during my life, yes I do, but I also know that these sins have all been forgiven, SEPARATED through Jesus, as far as the East is from the West and, There is now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus'

Let us consider another point, this is, as we see from the record of Divine Writings in Isaiah c38 v17, that our sins are cast BEHIND THE BACK of our Father God. We are moving forward in life, hoping that the problems we deal with in our lives will never meet up with us again, but, after a time, they seem to raise their ugly heads once more. Now our great Eternal, Creator, Holy, Righteous, Redeeming and Omniscient God dealt with our sins in and through His ONLY begotten, beloved Son, our Lord Jesus at Calvary. As our Father God is omniscient He knows everything, what then is the meaning of the words that our sins are cast behind the back of our Father God?' Surely it is that through the work of our dear Lord Jesus on The Cross, as we confess our sins they no longer exist, they are finished with. Our Lord's work was perfect, it was complete, no rough edges in any way, so as we confess our sins, in and through our Lord Jesus, they are put BEHIND THE BACK of our Father God, they no longer exist, they are finished with and will never be seen again

In the matters we are considering, I am drawing from the the writings of Isaiah in the Divine Oracles, for my last but one point I do the same, just look at c40 and v2. We are told that there is, of Jerusalem, that she has, Received of the Lord DOUBLE for all her sins', can this be correct I ask? Surely, for our sins they are forgiven once and do not have to be dealt with again

In understanding the whole of the teaching in Word of God, we know that such was the price that was paid for our redemption, so effective was The Cross experience of our Lord Jesus, that our sins are forgiven, not remembered, blotted out, separated, put behind the back of our Father God, so what does it mean to pay Double' for our sins?

Now the teaching on this matter was brought to my attention by a dear brother, who is in a fellowship that meets almost on top of the Malvern Hills, what was presented on the night in question was rather special for me. In the days that Isaiah put pen to paper, there was a custom, if a householder owed money to a trader and did not pay, then a record of the debt was written out and nailed' to the door, this remained there so that everyone could observe. As the debtor paid the account, so the trader would come along and fold over the record, the account sheet would be DOUBLED', so that the Xit could not be seen any more and he nailed' it in position, that would be final

Please keep in your mind the words DOUBLE' and NAILED', but I want you to understand the first as The Double' and this how it should be. Now our sins have received The Double' treatment through our Lord Jesus. The record of them has been folded over in Him, never to be seen again

In the teaching in Colossians c2 v14 we have the following words and I am going to write them out fully, the record goes. Blotting out the handwriting of ordnances that was against us, which was contrary to us, took it out of the way, NAILING' it to His Cross'. All this gives quite a wonderful picture of the work of our Lord Jesus

Now finally let us consider the most important person in connection with what we are considering, this One is our dear Lord Jesus Himself, for He, on His own WASHED AWAY our sins by His own blood, by His own life giving. All this work was done by our dear Lord on The Cross, done very effectively because of who He is. Our Lord did the work of our salvation freely, He could have walked away from it at any time. In those words our Lord spoke on The Cross were so true as He, yes He gave up the ghost'. The life of Jesus was not taken, He was not murdered, He GAVE His life a ransom for many and through it the penalty of death was paid for our sins, as we confess them, seeking His forgiveness, our sins are WASHED AWAY by His blood, His life giving, His death

Let us rejoice that in our Lord Jesus there has been paid THE DOUBLE' for all our sins, the record of them has been folded over, has been DOUBLED', the record has been NAILED' in the encounter with sin our Lord Jesus had on The Cross. Our sins are put BEHIND THE BACK of our Father God, they have been SEPARATED as far as the East is from the West. We also know that our sins have been BLOTTED OUT, not to be REMEMBERED any more and to seal it all they have been WASHED AWAY by the shed blood, by the life giving of our dear Lord Jesus, what more could we ask for? Now all this happens as we confess our sins, recognising fully that The Cross work of our Lord Jesus was for us, as we have forgiveness then our lives move in a different direction

Derek Prime was considering the direction of life as on holiday on the South Coast, he looked out to sea and there were yachts going in different directions but all driven by the same winds, the following words came to his mind

Some yachts go East and some go West,

By the self same winds that blow.

Its the set of the sails, and not the gales

That determines which way they go

Have you and I got the set of our sails in the right direction? To finish off this discourse I am going to quote a further few words of Scripture

Jesus said, Verily, verily, I say unto thee,

Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit,

He cannot enter into the Kingdom of God.

Marvel not that I say unto you, Ye must be born again'.

The wind bloweth where it willeth,

Thou hearest the sound of it,

But canst not tell from where it cometh or goeth

So is every one who is born of The Spirit
